The nose is the defining feature of your face, and many people find that an imbalance or irregularity seems to disrupt their entire appearance. Crooked or misshapen noses can also contribute to a host of breathing and sinus problems. Rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, in Toronto aims at correcting the function or appearance of the nose.
To find out more about rhinoplasty, request a complimentary consultation online or call (800) 390-5611. We offer our first-time consultation patients a free microdermabrasion treatment as our way of saying "thank you" for considering us.
This surgery is most appropriate for people who wish to improve the appearance or function of their nose. Nasal deviation has been shown to cause physiological problems and psychological distress, and has been linked to nasal congestion, sinus headaches and even depression.
Aesthetic reasons for rhinoplasty include:
However, patients must be realistic and carefully evaluate their options when considering a nose job in Toronto. Rhinoplasty is unsuitable for people who are have high risks associated with surgery, as well as people who have had recent or frequent nose surgery. Patients should also be aware that there are many alternatives that may produce the desired results without surgery; for example, a facial filler like JUVÉDERM® in Toronto may also correct some aesthetic issues with the nose.
A rhinoplasty typically takes one to two hours in an outpatient setting. The patient is administered general anaesthetic, or local anaesthetic and sedation. There are many different types of rhinoplasty, based on the needs of the patient, and Dr. Kara can perform procedures through an incision on the inside or outside of your nose. Dr. Kara will carefully reshape bone and cartilage to balance and refine the structure of the nose. Absorbable sutures are then placed into the nose; a splint may also be added as necessary.
Recovery time takes between one and two weeks, although patients should avoid strenuous activities for at least a week after recovery, and avoid activities that may injure their noses for six weeks. The new shape of the nose will gradually become apparent during the weeks that follow surgery.
Temporary side effects include swelling, bruising, and headaches, as well as some bleeding and stiffness. Dr. Kara may prescribe pain medication to ease these symptoms. As with all surgeries, there is a risk of infection, as well as the possibility of an unsatisfactory outcome that may require further surgical correction.
