Loose, sagging skin around your eyelids can really show your age and make you look tired even after a good night’s rest. Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, in Toronto is a minimally invasive procedure that can help you get rid of excess skin, fine lines and puffiness, as well as reduce the thin, crepe-paper look of aged skin around your eyes.
To find out more about eyelid surgery, request a complimentary consultation online or call (800) 390-5611. We offer our first-time consultation patients a free microdermabrasion treatment as our way of saying "thank you" for considering us.
Most Toronto eyelid surgery patients are over 35 and want to restore a more youthful, refreshed appearance to the eye area. Good candidates for eyelid surgery include healthy non-smokers who do not suffer from thyroid disease.
It is best to check in with your ophthalmologist before undergoing any eyelid rejuvenation procedure, as patients with some eye disorders may not be good candidates for eyelid surgery.
Sedation anesthesia or general anesthesia may be used during eyelid surgery, and depending on your cosmetic concerns, will be placed along the upper eyelid crease or inside the lower eyelid. Excess skin is removed to correct eyelid hooding and drooping, and fat in the lower eyelid area may be repositioned to correct eye bags and wrinkles.
While some patients seek total eyelid rejuvenation, which takes 1-2 hours to perform, others choose only upper eyelid surgery to correct droopy eyelids or lower eyelid surgery to correct under eye puffiness and fine lines. Performed individually, upper eyelid surgery or lower eyelid surgery typically takes less than an hour.
Eyelid surgery is often performed in combination with a brow lift in Toronto to further correct upper eyelid sagging and uplift the eyebrows, as well as with laser rejuvenation to improve skin texture and reduce wrinkles.
Toronto blepharoplasty patients may return home the day of their procedure and should expect to spend at least 5-7 days recovering, during which time Dr. Kara will remove your stitches. Dr. Kara will check in with you regularly to ensure you are healing properly and advise you on when it’s safe to resume wearing contacts (usually 1-2 weeks) and using makeup in the eye area (usually within one week).
Some bruising and swelling after the procedure is normal but pain should be minimal, and all temporary side effects will usually resolve within 1-2 weeks. By 2-3 weeks patients can typically resume exercising and within 1-2 months, the final eyelid surgery results should start to become visible.
