Sagging or drooping breasts can be caused by a number of factors, including excessive breast size, pregnancy, or the natural aging process. In these cases, while diet and exercise can help maintain muscle tone, many women find that a breast lift in Toronto, also known as mastopexy, is the only effective option to attain perkier, more youthful breasts.

There are three types of breast droopiness, also known as breast ptosis. Breast lift surgery is effective in treating mild, moderate, and severe instances of ptosis:
If you’re considering a breast lift, you should be realistic about the results of breast lift surgery. The best results tend to occur with small breasts, as the results may not last as long with heavier breasts.
Some patients who have breast implants in Toronto and suspect they have ptosis may in fact have poorly positioned implants, and should discuss this with a board certified plastic surgeon. Women who smoke should quit at least six months before breast lift surgery.
Women who intend to become pregnant in the future may want to consider postponing breast lift surgery, as lactation can change the shape of the breast.
In Toronto, breast lift surgery usually lasts from 1-3 hours. The operation takes place in an outpatient facility, and requires general anaesthetic. There are many different breast lift procedures available, and it’s important to talk to Dr. Kara about what options might be best for you. In general, the procedure involves removing skin and perhaps some glandular tissue, and elevating the nipple. During a breast lift, the surgeon may also reduce the size of your areola, which is the dark ring around your nipple.
Recovery time after surgery is usually about two weeks, during which you will wear a surgical bra for needed support while you heal. Temporary bruising and swelling may be expected, and Dr. Kara may prescribe pain medication. As with all surgeries, some scarring occurs. The effects of the surgery are long-lasting but not permanent, since gravity continues to push down on the patient’s breasts.
