Implants used in breast augmentation are not necessarily permanent. If necessary, they can be removed in order to change implant sizes, switch from saline to silicone, or to correct a failed implant. Because so many things can change, including individual preferences, health, and so on, many women with breast implants in Toronto will require revision surgery or removal at some point in their life.
To find out more about breast implant removal, request a complimentary consultation online or call (800) 390-5611. We offer our first-time consultation patients a free microdermabrasion treatment as our way of saying "thank you" for considering us.
The factors contributing to breast implant removal in Toronto are many and wide-ranging in nature. Some women wish to change their breast implant size for cosmetic reasons, while others may have received a diagnosis of breast cancer and require a mastectomy. Indications for implant removal often include preference changes (changing size or implant type), or complications like capsular contracture and breast implant rupture.
Other reasons for breast implant removal/exchange may include breast implant displacement, wrinkling of the implant, or sagging of the breast and nipple.
Your breast implant removal will be performed using either general anesthesia or local anesthesia depending on the complexity of the surgery. The procedure is conducted in an outpatient setting and takes an average of two hours.
After the anesthetic is administered, your plastic surgeon will place a small incision along the scar created during the original augmentation procedure. The implant will then be removed, and deflated if made of saline. At this time, a new implant will be inserted, depending on your plans for surgery. Mastopexy (breast lift surgery) may also be conducted in order to help alleviate any changes in appearance caused by removing the breast implant.
Following breast implant removal you may experience mild discomfort, including swelling and bruising. Side effects vary considerably, however, depending on whether your surgery was accompanied by mastopexy or other breast augmentation procedures in Toronto. Please refer to Dr. Kara for postoperative steps specific to you and your surgery.
It is not unusual to experience psychological distress after breast implant removal in response to the change in body shape and appearance. Don't hesitate to contact your doctor if you are unsatisfied with, or troubled by, the results of breast implant removal.
